Where God is exalted, Everyone matters, and You belong!

Verse of the Day
Make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

UPC Celebrates Women's History M

 Women's History Month

The public celebration of women's history in this country began in 1978 as "Women's History Week" in Sonoma County, California. The week including March 8, International Women's Day, was selected. In 1981, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and Rep. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) co-sponsored a joint Congressional resolution proclaiming a national Women's History Week. In 1987, Congress expanded the celebration to a month, and March was declared Women's History Month.  UPC will continue to honor the stories of valiant women who have re-shaped the course of history throughout society and indeed the church.  For more information on our celebration of Women's History Month please visit:

UPC Prays for the Nation of Chil

Chile rocked by massive earthquake

TALCA, Chile – A devastating earthquake struck Chile early Saturday, toppling homes, collapsing bridges and plunging trucks into the fractured earth. A tsunami set off by the magnitude-8.8 quake threatened every nation around the Pacific Ocean — roughly a quarter of the globe.

Interior Minister Edmundo Perez Yoma said the most powerful quake to hit the country in a half-century killed at least 82 people, but the death toll was rising quickly.

In the town of Talca, just 65 miles (105 kilometers) from the epicenter, Associated Press journalist Roberto Candia said it felt as if a giant had grabbed him and shaken him.

The town's historic center, filled with buildings of adobe mud and straw, largely collapsed, though most of those were businesses that were not inhabited during the 3:34 a.m. (1:34 a.m. EST, 0634 GMT) quake. Neighbors pulled at least five people from the rubble while emergency workers, themselves disoriented, asked for information from reporters.

Many roads were destroyed, and electricity, water and phone lines were cut to many areas — meaning there was no word of death or damage from many outlying areas.  For more information please visit: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100227/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/lt_chile_earthquake

"Lord, we humbly come before you asking that you may deliver those who may find themselves in peril as a result of this earthquake in Chile.  Bless the families who have lost loved ones with your embrace and comfort. We know that You are all-merciful and abundant in love for You, oh Lord, are the author of life.  Bless the families here in the United States and particularly in Plainfield, NJ who have families in Talca, Chile and are anxiously waiting for a promising word. These things we ask in the precious name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen!"

Disaster Relief Response
HAITI
The incredibly destructive natural disaster in Haiti has caused immeasurable destruction of life and property to an already impoverished group of brothers and sisters.  The reports and programs beamed into our homes remind us of how connected our world is.  Reports are that progress is being made.  But there is so much more to be done. The question is…who will supply the emergency food, water shelter and medical supplies?  Part of the answer can be you and I and our vast network of contacts.

Our United Presbyterian Church family is committed to providing financial support to not only provide relief to the struggling earthquake victims, but contribute to the long-term rebuilding of Haiti’s infrastructure, housing and economy.
On Sunday February 14, 2009 we held a special
“Hearts for Haiti” dedication worship service.
